Samuel Bradin, a survivor of the Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen
concentration camps, speaks about his experiences as part of the
20th annual Holocaust Remembrance Program. Marist students and faculty, as well as members of the Poughkeepsie community, filled the Marist College Performing Arts Room to standing-room-only capacity on Wednesday, April 7. The mission of the program is to ensure that history never repeats itself.
Samuel Bradin, a Holocaust survivor of Polish decent, displays a serial number that was tattooed on his arm during his time at the Auschwitz concentration camp when he was 12 years old. Bradin was later moved to the Bergen-Belsen camp where his older brother, who he said helped him survive the horrors of the camp, died two days before its liberation on April 15, 1945. Bradin's entire immediate family died in the Holocaust, but he later found extended family in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he was able to restart his life.

Patricia Haidoui, owner of Casablanca Coffee, firmly presses espresso grounds in a process known to baristas as "tamping." A proper tamp produces the best quality espresso for her customers, and Haidoui stresses this fact to all of her employees.
A smooth stream of espresso flows, as Patricia Haidoui prepares a macchiato drink. A macchiato is a shot of espresso with a dollop of steamed milk on top and is the perfect pick-me-up for her bleary-eyed customer on his way to work Monday morning.
